Mongolia is literally strewn with archaeological and cultural sites of world significance, including those registered with the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. However due to lack of resources and knowledge many of these invaluable treasures are being vandalized or worse fall into the hands of criminals. In association with scientific and governmental institutions Ulaanbaatar Tourism Association is working to create plans to protect and create usage of these sites which does not put stress on the resource yet allows locals to benefit from it.

The purpose of interpretation is to provide memorable, meaningful, and inspirational experiences related to a particular site or resource and to strengthen public understanding of the full meaning and relevance of the country’s natural and cultural resources. Interpretation is needed on all levels throughout science and research, service industry and conservation. With proper interpretation it is possible to not only save money and resources but also raise funds that are very much needed in a small, struggling economy like mongolian. We at UBTA work with both individual organizations, like regional museums or lodging operators and communities to create interpretive plans, train interpreters and provide assistance on all levels.
